DIY Gifts: Roasted Garlic Salt

Another Friday, another diy gift. Today I’m sharing a recipe for some Roasted Garlic Salt. This is a finishing salt – just a dash on dishes can add a great roasty flavor of garlic. It such an awesome gift and very easy to make.

Ingredients:

-1 head of garlic

-1 cup Kosher salt

-a dash of olive oil

Steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 400. Lay out a piece of foil. Place garlic on foil and drizzle some olive oil on it. Wrap the garlic in the foil. Place garlic in oven for 30-40 minutes until garlic is softened.
  2. Once garlic is cooled, squeeze garlic out of the shell. Mix the salt in with the garlic. Now you need to break up the garlic pieces into the salt. I like to use my hands for this, but I recommend putting some gloves on. Once its all mixed lay the garlic on a cookie sheet.
  3. Reduce the oven to 200 and put the garlic/salt mix in for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven and let the salt cool. It should feel dry to the touch. Break up and clumps and put the salt into small containers.

I tripled the recipe to fill these four short Mason jars. I always love adding a cute little tag to the container – I designed a circle tag and a tag-shaped tag. You can download the artwork here:

I printed these on cardstock and used a hole punch to attach. Enjoy!
