Baby Books

I absolutely loved reading as a kid and one of the things I was looking forward to the most while pregnant was getting to share that love with my son. We have quite a little library, but I am always on the lookout/I’m a major sucker for a new book!

I may be picky, but I love books that have really awesome illustration (design nerd here..) Today I’m going to share some of my favorites. If you have a book you love, please share in the comments! We are always open to recommendations.

Here are my current faves:

  • Where Are You Blue? by Sonali Fry: I am OBSESSED with this book. The story is adorable, it is a play on telephone. All of the dots are wondering where Blue is and they all “hear” different versions of the truth. And the artwork is amazing – artistically and stimulating. Dylan is always grabbing for the Dots. I truly hope they make this a series of Dot Town stories because I will buy and read them all!
  • The Little Dump Truck by Margery Cuyler and Bob Kolar: I love the rhythm of this story, if that makes sense. It’s very sing-songy without being rhyme heavy. And the artwork is awesome, very cartoony is a clean way. Dylan always pays attention to this one. I think the combo on the vibrant art with the great story pace really keeps his attention.
  • Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs by Sandra Boynton: Another one that has an awesome rhythm. This one I have been reading to him for many months now and I almost have the pages memorized – which I can never tell is a good thing or a sad thing. But its great! It shows comparisons between different traits/adjectives which I know will be good for when he comprehends more.
  • Home Sweet Home by Roger Priddy: This is a total design nerd book. The artwork is awesome but so is the design of the book. It’s a flap lifting book that shows different animals in their different habitats. Dylan is not as into this book now, but I enjoy it so I still read it with him. I have a feeling once he can understand more, he will be hooked. And it is a great way to introduce him to the different habitats as well as the different animals that live there. I am especially excited for the forest page because we have a forest with trails behind our house – I can’t wait to take him on the trails and ask him what animals would live there.

And we also read the classics, Catepillar and Brown bear are some of his favorites. Its been so great to share my love of reading with him so far. I hope he enjoys it as much as I did! And Rocky seems to enjoy the books too! He is never far from Dylan.
